The USPA introduces the addition of women's handicaps to enhance the level of women's polo competition.

USPA MENTORING PROGRAM

2010

The official team USPA training and mentoring programme kicks off with try-outs in Florida for young American men and women polo players.

THE WESTCHESTER CUP IS BEING PLAYED IN AMERICA

2008

The USPA challenges the Hurlingham Polo Association of England to the Westchester Cup, making the historic duel the first time it has been played in America in 70 years.

 THE UNITED STATES POLO ASSOCIATION'S 100TH ANNIVERSARY

The International Polo Club at Palm Beach opens and hosts the 100-year anniversary of the United States Polo Association.

The United States Polo Association celebrates its 100th birthday.

The licensing programme for the United States Polo Association was formed to manage its trademarks and promote the sport of polo.

FIRST WOMEN ASSIGNED USPA HANDICAPS

1973

The first women to be assigned USPA handicaps were Elizabeth Daily, Sue Sally Hale, Virginia Merchant, and Jorie Butler Richardson.

FIRST U.S. OPEN POLO CHAMPIONSHIP

1904

In New York City, the USA team defeated the British team at the first U.S. Open Polo Championship.

THE UNITED STATES POLO ASSOCIATION (USPA) IS CREATED

The national governing body of the sport of polo in the United States.

The Association was formed to promote and improve the sport of polo. It does this by coordinating the activities of its member clubs and registered players; planning, allocating, and overseeing polo tournaments, competitions, and games, setting rules, handicaps, and conditions for those tournaments, competitions, and games, including the safety and well-being of players and their horses.

The Calcutta Polo Club, the world's oldest polo club, was founded.

British officers in India set up the first polo club of modern times, the Silchar Polo Club.
